I eat fruit all year round, but there’s no question it’s better when the weather is warmer. After what seems like the longest winter ever, it looks like we are finally getting some sunshine, which changes the way I eat.
I make fruit salad quite a bit, but usually something changes, whether the fruit, the dressing, or other additions like nuts and seeds. I rarely make the same thing twice, unless I come across a combo that I love, like this one.
Avocados are generally made into savory foods like guacamole, but their mild flavor and creamy texture make them perfect for a variety of dishes, including fruit salads like this one. I like adding avocados to fruit salad because they are high in fat, which fills you up.
The dressing I made here is a simple mixture of Ava Jane’s Kitchen Avocado Oil, orange juice, and honey. I tossed with the fruits I had on hand, which included berries and mangos, but you could use whatever you like. Then to finish, I added some chia seeds for protein and sunflower seeds for crunch. To finish, a light sprinkle of Colima Sea Salt seemed to amplify the sweetness of the fruit.
It was a really good combo, and one I will probably make again in the exact same way. I especially liked the combination of avocado with the orange flavored dressing; it was bright and sunny after a long winter.
